Yellow Pen Club’s Summer Camp is an annual programme of exhibitions, conversations, workshops, screenings, and performances held during the hottest days of the year. Its inaugural edition begins at YPC SPACE, moves through the surrounding neighbourhood and wider Chungmuro area, and extends onto a shared radio frequency, carrying voices and sounds beyond the places where bodies gather. Across this compressed span of time and space, encounters follow one another, allowing impressions and ideas to accumulate.

Each edition grows from questions that have emerged through conversations at YPC SPACE. These questions are grounded in where we work, yet remain open to transformation through contact with elsewhere. We invite artists, researchers, and cultural workers from different places, some longstanding companions and others we have yet to meet. Rather than presenting a succession of spectacles, Summer Camp makes space for staying together. Rather than demanding further production, it asks what careful attention might make possible. It is both a gathering and an experiment in how artistic practice and knowledge might be shared and carried forward here and now.

The 2026 theme, “Islands and Bridges,” begins from a world in which isolation is actively produced through borders and blockades, redevelopment and censorship, and systems that fragment collective time and attention. Yet a bridge need not be permanent or monumental. It may be assembled from discarded materials, launched across water, threaded through textiles and sound, carried by radio waves, or maintained through the fragile structures that allow people to gather.

The programme follows such provisional forms of passage: two schools building a staircase from discarded planks across a sharply drawn boundary; an aid flotilla setting sail for a blockaded land; pipes and brick walls in a neighbourhood facing demolition becoming relays for fractured speech and irreconcilable positions; and an old man evading censorship by writing characters in water, turning disappearance into a means of resisting erasure. These are not images of seamless connection, but practices of reaching across difference without dissolving it. Summer Camp gathers them as invitations to inhabit time together and remain open to relations whose forms cannot yet be known.
